My neighbor’s iris bloomed today. Like the Rose-Breasted Grosbeak, that beautiful things appear overnight is breathtaking.

I modified the camera, an early-model digital point-and-shoot, so that it only shoots in focus five inches away from its subject. I was too far for the first shot, but that was the closest I could be to shoot the iris’s shape. The images are also at flickr.
