Did you know that Anne of Green Gables is a lesbian fantasy? So much so, in fact, that it pivots on a scene in which Anne and her “bosom friend” Diane race to bed together, only to be thwarted by a crone, already in the bed, who shames them. FYI, it was Romanticism that made Anne gay.

The PBS special didn’t go so far as their marriage, but it was inevitable… Homosocial/-sexual behavior can be tolerated only so much before heterosexuality asserts its majoritarian ways.
